Love . . . the desire of every human heart is to love and to be loved. Yet
multiplied millions of God's children have been so deeply hurt and devastated
in the name of love that the words, "I love you" create fear and
apprehension instead of security and fulfillment. Their exploitation in the
name of love makes them wary and suspicious of anyone who proclaims to love
them. Even more tragic, the promise of God's Love elicits the same reaction.
Why? Because the imperfections of humanity are slapped across the face of
Divinity!
After every phase of God's creative work He proclaimed, "It
is good" until He created man. Then He said, "It is not good
. . . that man should be alone." God knows that man can only find
fulfillment through intimacy. Not just sexual intimacy, but emotional and
spiritual fulfillment that can only come through intimacy of the heart.
That's why after creating Adam He proclaimed, "It is not good
for man to be alone," and He created Eve.
Jesus taught us that Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy. Satan uses
fear of love to destroy the fulfillment that can only be found through
intimacy. And Satan doesn't stop there; he uses that same fear to
cut us off from the ultimate fulfillment, spiritual intimacy with God.
The disabling pain, torment, devastation, and brokenness from sexual violence
and abuse can only be destroyed through God's healing love. Satan's
false fear of God's Love separates hurting humanity from the healing
and wholeness that they so desperately need.
So what does hurting humanity do? They substitute support groups and counseling
for God's intimate, healing love. No, I'm not criticizing support
groups and counseling, but if their goal is not to guide the participants
into God's Healing Love, they become a cleansing lotion for the emotion
that provide only a temporary relief.
How can we break loose from the bondage of this satanic deception? First,
confess it to God and ask His forgiveness. Confess your inability to even
fulfill the first and greatest commandment, to love God. Do you realize
that I John 4:19 reveals why we love God? We love God because He first
loved us! Therefore to love God more requires that we experience a greater
revelation of His Love for us. Ask God to reveal more of His love for you
that you might love Him more.
Then begin to praise God for His unconditional love for you, a love that
is not based upon your performance, but rather on the performance of Christ!
That means we are not what we do, we are what Jesus did!
Your goal should be to experience the love of God personally. His love
for you is an unchanging eternal truth, but it will never seem real if
you don't get physically, mentally and emotionally quiet before the
Lord.
Many times when praying over tormented Saints, I have asked God to encompass
them in the security blanket of His love, like a caterpillar is encompassed
by it's cocoon. I call God's Love a security blanket because
I John 4:18 proclaims, "There is no fear in love, but perfect love
casts out fear, because fear has torment." Imagine what life would
be like if it was free from the torment of fear in all it's forms.
All we have to do is learn to abide in the security blanket of God's
Healing Love! Don't settle for less than your privilege!!!
